Although their father was aware of the wizarding world, no one else in their muggle side of the family was. This made for awkward holidays. Matthew was the typical bad-boy: running with the wrong gang, drinking underage, enjoying the company of a number of muggle vehicles. Hogwarts only did so much to straighten him out.
