Misty nodded and smiled at his quip about the prefects. She'd often heard the Slytherin prefects whining about how it was no fair that they had to do night rounds, but the head boy and girl never had to do them. "Seems as though you don't always get out of night shifts, though," she commented, considering that it was two in the morning.
Misty laughed a little and nodded when Hugo asked about the Quidditch team. "Oh, I love it," she said, "I've always felt so comfortable in the air. I'm a bit surprised that I made the team, really. The Slytherin captain doesn't seem to like me very much. Probably for the same reasons Drina and her cronies don't like me. But at least she's fair about it. I like Arianna, though!" she told him. "I haven't talked to her much, but from what I hear from other people, she doesn't care much for house rivalries, either."
There were a few moments of silence, and then Misty asked, "Did you ever try out for the Quidditch team? I bet you would've made a good keeper, or even a beater; you've got the right build for it."

At the mention of him being up and about at two in the morning made him cringe a little inside. He was about to go on about why he was up in the first place but, he didn't think she'd be interested. As Misty went on about her quidditch life, Hugo couldn't help but be a tad envious. He tried flushing it out of his system by taking a few deep breaths but they didn't help any. He knew he had it coming when he asked the question in the first place. Hugo just can't help but wonder 'what ifs' about his old potential in quidditch.
At her question, Hugo felt a little of his mood drop. Trying to seem like it was no big deal, he smiled a little. "I did try but sadly, did not make it," he said curtly. By his appearance and passion for the sport, anyone would be surprised to hear that he wasn't on the quidditch team. However, Hugo wasn't about to go on about how his parents hired a professional quidditch impostor to permanently injure him so he wouldn't outshine his brother. He wasn't sure that story was quite believable by how cheerful he was all the time. Besides, he hated rumors and gossip so he wouldn't want people talking about him. It might degrade his reputation as head boy and people would lose respect for him. That's what goes through his mind whenever he thinks about telling people anyway.

Misty frowned. She knew there always had to be people who didn't get on the Quidditch team, but it always made her sad when someone really wanted to play the game, but didn't get to.
"Oh, that's too bad. I've seen you a couple of times at Quidditch games. It looks like you really like the game," she said, her tone a little mournful. Suddenly, her face brightened as a new idea came to her mind. "But you could always play just for fun, I bet. As long as the pitch isn't booked for a team, that is. I've seen some people flying around out there before; they just use regular balls and skip the Snitch altogether and set a time limit instead. It always looks like they're having fun. I'd play with you, if you'd like. Although," she said with a grin, "it's probably be kind of embarrassing to be seen with a third year, huh?"

Hugo smiled at her graciousness. "It doesn't matter to met what age you are. It's how skillful you are that matters." He looked at her and wondered how good she was. Hugo was never that interested in the slytherin quidditch games but he may go out and see the next one. Hugo would love to play no matter who with but, he had to be extremely careful. The next injury he received would lead to him not being able to walk again. This was always at the back of his mind whenever he played but he was still worried about getting hurt. As long as it's for fun though, no one ever played too rough. Unless of course he played against slytherins. He did that once and promised himself never to do it again.
Looking again at Misty, he knew she wasn't the kind to play dirty. For that, he was thankful there was a sane, level-headed player on their team. "I would gladly play. Thanks," he said smiling. Hugo really does like the game but just saying he likes it would be a complete understatement.

Misty's grin grew wider as the boy said that he'd play Quidditch with her at some time. "Oh, I'm skilled enough, I suppose. I'm no wonder at it, but I'm not bad, either," she told him in response to what he'd said about age not mattering as much as skill. Misty had never been one to brag about herself; another characteristic that set her apart from most other Slytherins. She was, in fact, a very good Quidditch player, not to mention very agile, even on slow brooms.
"I don't cheat, so don't worry. I could find some other people to play, too," she offered, thinking about who she could ask. She thought about asking Arianna to go, and wondered if Pixie would be interested in it.

"Really? The more the merrier!" Hugo said a bit too loudly. He was excited to play and the fact that Misty knew of some people that would be willing to play with them excited him even more. Realizing that he had spoken too loud, he said the next few words quite softly, "Just tell me the time and place and I'll be there." It made it sound like he was doing some kind of drug deal but Misty knew what he meant.
Hugo had stopped walking when he realized that they had finally arrived at the muggle studies classroom. His hand rustled around in his robes for a little bit before pulling out his wand. Without saying a word, he gave it one flick toward the doorknob and a light click was heard. Pushing open the door, he motioned for Misty to enter. "After you."

Misty nodded enthusiastically, glad she had found someone who didn't think she would cheat just because she was a Slytherin, and that actually seemed to want to do something. There was Pixie, of course, but the two had become friends before Pixie had even known that Misty was a Slytherin student. "Okay then, Mr. Sneaky," she teased softly.
They reached a door that Misty had often walked past but had never known what lay beyond it. Hugo unlocked it, and Misty stepped inside, pulling a piece of parchment out of her pocket. The parchment contained instructions from Drina on where the compact would be located.
"'The compact will be sitting on the teacher's desk, in plain sight. Just pick it up and bring it back to me.' Well, sounds easy enough to find," Misty read. She scanned the room and quickly identified the teacher's desk. But a quick search of the desktop revealed no compact, and Misty began to panic.
"C'mon... it's gotta be here somewhere..." she muttered as she shifted stacks of parchment rolls, trying to find the make-up.

Hugo had remained in the doorway watching Misty look for the compact. He took a few steps in before closing the door and walking over to the desk. "Are you sure it's here? Those slytherins aren't just pulling your leg?" He took it upon himself to sift through all the papers and materials on the desktop. When no compact seemed to appear, he bent down and began to play with the desk drawers. Puzzled, he rose to his full height and looked apologetically at Misty.
Nothing new, but it seemed like those slytherins had set her up. It sickens him that they are in his very year and it's quite embarrassing really. Running his fingers through his fair hair, he decided to give looking for the compact another shot so he waved his wand and whispered, "Accio compact."

Misty bit her lip, feeling tears sting in her eyes again as no compact turned up. She held her breath as Hugo performed a summoning charm, hoping against all hope that the compact would rush to his hand. Unfortunately, there was no compact to be found in the room.
Misty felt a white-hot anger burning in her chest as she clenched her hands into fists, the nails digging in so deep that her palms began to bleed.
"How could've I been. so. stupid?" she hissed, to herself rather than Hugo. She began to pace, furious with herself.
"Of course they didn't actually put a compact in here; then they would actually have to leave me alone! They left me to ultimately fail no matter what, and probably get in trouble while I was at it!" she told herself, rage boiling in her. Finally, she pressed a hand to her face, trying to force herself to calm down. Then she looked at Hugo.
"I... I'm sorry you had to come all this way just to see that Drina's made a fool out of me," she apologized, sitting down at a table. She was too angry and exhausted to do anything else.

Hugo couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor girl. The slytherins had gotten to her yet again and that angered him to no end. He instantly rushed over to Misty and put his arm around her in a brotherly fashion. "It's okay, really. I had fun coming down here," he said smiling at her. "Cheer up. Don't let them get to you because then they'll always have power over you. You don't want that now, do you?" The best advice he could give in this situation is to try ignore them as best she could until they finally graduated. Maybe after they picked on her and didn't get any response from her, they'd leave her alone to pick on some other poor victim.
"Why don't you go off to bed? You'll need all the rest you can get if you're going to play quidditch with me," he said with cheerful tones. Hugo really hated to see anyone cry especially out of embarrassment or anguish.

Misty tried to smile back at Hugo, but it turned out as more of a grimace, so she let the fake smile fall back into a frown. "Yeah, I guess..." she said, looking down at her bloody palms. She nodded when Hugo suggested that she go back to bed.
"Yeah... I should probably wash off my hands, too," she said, giving a little laugh. Still, she dreaded seeing the sneering faces of the older Slytherin girls as they teased her, asking if the Gryffindor-softy had the guts to go get the compact, and she didn't want to hear what they had to say about the fact that she didn't get it, never mind the fact that it wasn't there.
Still, she was exhausted, and the thought of her nice, comfy bed sounded wonderful. "I think I will, Hugo. Good night," she said, pulling away from him and heading out the door.

Hugo released a sigh as he felt like he really didn't help any. At least he tried, right? Too bad to Hugo, trying didn't mean anything unless he actually succeeded in something. As he watched her leave, he said, "Good night. Don't forget our future quidditch match!" He leaned his body against one of the desks and noticed they made some of a mess on the desk. Not feeling like manually cleaning up, like he ever felt like cleaning up anyway, he waved his wand once silently and the desk was restored to its original state.
He put his wand away and began to walk toward the door. Pulling up the hood from his robe over his head, he left the muggle studies room to go back to warm, welcoming bed. Hugo tried to avoid checking the time or he might get irritated again that he would even be up at this hour.
