A grumpy Hugo was making his way up to the top of the bell towers to confront a problem. Normally this would be okay if it wasn't a two in the morning. One of the prefects had woken him up saying there was an emergency at the top of the bell towers. Telling him to figure out the problem on his own wouldn't suffice so he donned his robe and slipped on his slippers to follow the prefect. Mumbling indecencies to anyone who was willing to hear, he was near the top. No one would believe that Hugo was in such a sour mood. He's normally so cheerful and joyful but Hugo is not a morning person. Nor is he an it's-okay-to-wake-me-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night kind of person.
Finally he made it to the top. Bursting through the entrance, he saw a couple of fourth years and a ravenclaw prefect in his midst. Glaring at them while folding his arms he waited for an explanation. The prefect fearfully look at him and stated that he had everything under control now. If waking up at two in the morning wasn't enough to create a fuming Hugo, the declaration that he had woken up at two in the morning for nothing would. He opened his mouth to scream obscenities but thought better of it. "I am going to have a word with you later," he told the prefect. And with that, he left them and began his descent.
After a few minutes of traversing, he felt a little better as sleep overcame him. It was then that Hugo heard light footsteps coming from below him. At least I got up for something then... If the student was someone he knew, he would consider letting them off with a warning. But if they were a student out and about thinking they were going to get away with it, they were in for a rude awakening.

Misty bit her lip hard as she heard steps coming down from a tower, drawing blood. She wiped it off from her mouth with the back of her hand and looked around wildly, trying to find someplace to hide.
She hadn't meant to go here. A seventh year from her own house had made fun of her and her father, calling them pansies. They had said she was a wimp because her father was from Gryffindor. The teasing had been going on for weeks now. Normally, things like that didn't bother Misty, but them insulting her father was going too far. Then, to make matters worse, the seventh year had shoved her, causing her to trip down some stairs and giving her a nasty bruise on her side. That had been the last straw. She'd lost her temper and told them that she wasn't afraid of anything and that she wasn't a wimp, and the seventh year had told her to prove it. To do so, Misty was supposed to go to a particular room and get an item the seventh year had hidden there. The only rules were that Misty couldn't have a wand with her, she couldn't tell anyone, and she had to go after everyone was supposed to be in bed.
Unfortunately, Misty had no idea where the room was, and so she'd been wandering the corridors for hours, searching for the room. She was now completely and totally lost. Tears of frustration burned in the girl's eyes as the footsteps from the stairs drew closer, but she wouldn't let them fall. Instead, she drew herself up in the best defiant pose she could muster. She knew she'd be in trouble, and probably get detention. She just hoped that the seventh year wouldn't find out, and that somehow, she'd still be able to get the item.

Hugo continued on his descent while covering his mouth while he yawned. A mere seconds later, he spotted a young girl a few steps below him. He folded his arms and smiled at the girl in a malicious kind of way. "What do you think you're doing out of bed? You're old enough to know the rules already, Misty Longbottom, isn't it?" He tilted his head at her trying to remember her correctly. His eyes brightened with recognition after a few seconds. He remembered stopping a few slytherins from harassing the poor girl a few months ago. It was odd; he had never encountered a problem where slytherins were picking on a slytherin. Nonetheless, Hugo recognized the girl almost instantly. Depending on why she was out in the first place, he might let this discrepancy slide.

Misty nodded, balling her hands into fists at her sides as she stared wide-eyed at Hugo. Of all the rotten luck she'd ever had, getting caught out of bed by the Head Boy was the worst. There were several prefects that could have caught her, and she would've been able to charm her way out of getting in trouble from almost any of them. Unfortunately this wasn't one of them. The smile on his face was frightening. "Yes, sir, I'm Misty Longbottom." For once the girl's ability to ramble endlessly had failed her.
"I know the rules, sir, but I-" Misty faltered. She couldn't tell Hugo why she was out and about; it was against the rules. And she'd already been told what would happen if she broke the rules. She swallowed hard.
"I can't tell you why I'm out, sir," she said in a near-whisper. She wasn't even sure if Hugo would be able to hear her. Misty nearly never talked softly, so he probably wasn't expecting such a quiet answer.

"What was that? You said you can't tell me?" he said raising his eyebrows at her. Hugo looked at his watch and realized how early in the morning it was again. He sighed and it was like his whole demeanor changed. He was a lot more relaxed now and easy going. It was just absolutely too early to be disciplining anyone at this hour. That's why he sent out prefects to do the job for him. "Look, I'm not here to get you into trouble. I'm not even supposed to be up if it weren't for those darned, unexperienced prefe-" He cut himself off to prevent himself from rambling. He continued on, "How about this? We never saw each other."
He took a few steps down and passed her on his way back to his comfy bed. A realization struck him. Hugo stopped and turned to look at the girl once more. "The reason you're out here isn't because of those slytherins again is it? Because if it is, you can tell me and I can handle it." He knew some seventh year slytherins who weren't your typical slytherins that could sabotage whomever was harassing Misty.

Misty swallowed hard again as Hugo asked what she'd said. He got it right, though. She stared down at her shoes. "I'm not worried you'll get me in trouble, sir," she told him truthfully. That's the least of my worries, actually, she thought to herself.
At his suggestion, Misty nodded, still refusing to look at Hugo's face. She felt as though she was lying to him, even though absolutely everything she'd said was true. Misty hated lying, even if the lie didn't hurt anyone. Both being lied to and lying to other people were her pet peeves.
When Hugo asked if she was out because of the Slytherins he'd told off for picking on her earlier, Misty's gaze snapped up from her shoes, searching Hugo's face. Though she hadn't talked to him much, Misty knew he was fairly nice, and being Head Boy, he had the power to punish the Slytherins that were bothering her. For a moment she wondered if she should tell him. Then she thought better of it. If she did, and the Slytherins got punished, they'd be even angrier. There was no telling what they'd do if they were angry at her, in places where no one was around to see it.
"I can handle it on my own, sir," she said, mind racing. Even though she said that, there was no way Hugo was going to allow her to continue wandering around the castle at night by herself, and then the bullies would've won. She wondered if that was even that bad. She was tired, and longed for her bed. She could deal with a few more bruises, and she could ignore her wounded pride.

Hugo sighed in defeat. He was trying to help the girl but it seems she's not telling the whole story. In all his years of being a prefect, this seems to happen often. "Well, isn't there a slytherin you can confide in to help you? I'd really wish you'd let me help, Misty. That is what I'm here for after all. If there's anything you need... no matter how good or bad it is, I'll try my best to aid you. Even if rule bending is involved, depending on the circumstances, I might be all for it," he said gently looking into her face. Hugo was already up and it didn't seem like he was getting a full night's rest anyway so sleep didn't really concern him at the moment.
One of the reasons why he wanted to be a head boy was for the rewarding experience of helping others while still disciplining them. It was a hard job really but being a prefect kind of prepped him for it. If Misty didn't allow him to help in whatever it was, he'd feel like he failed and he absolutely hates feeling that way.

OOC: Gonna make up some names here, 'kay?
Misty stared back down at her shoes. Clenching her fists, she made up her mind. She'd tell him the problem, and face the consequences later. At least someone would know what's up.
"It's Drina," she sighed, closing her eyes. "Well, mainly Drina, but Rayne and Racheal helped. They've been making fun of me because my parents were Gryffindors. They called me weak, worthless, and a wimp, but you know that already, sir. I've been trying to ignore them, I really have, but then they said my father was a weakling who bred wimpy children who couldn't stand up for themselves and were afraid of their own shadow, and Drina pushed me down some stairs." Misty twisted to the side and pulled up the hem of her shirt slightly, revealing a dark black-and-blue bruise on her side. "I snapped and told them that I wasn't afraid of anything. Drina said I had to prove it if I wanted to stay in this school. So I have to go get her make-up compact from the Muggle Studies room. The rules were that I couldn't take my wand, I couldn't tell anyone, and I had to go get it after everyone's supposed to be in bed. Drina said-" Misty faltered, swallowing hard. "She said," the girl continued in a barely audible whisper, "that if I broke any of the rules, she'd break my wand and kill my owl."
Misty quivered with fear. She loved her owl more than nearly anything else in the world, besides her family. She hoped that she could keep Drina from killing Shadewing, even if it meant a lot more bruises for herself. She looked Hugo in the eye now.
"Please don't let them find out I've told you," she begged, her eyes pleading. "If they get in trouble, they'll be angrier than ever."

How did this girl end up in Slytherin? I swear that Sorting Hat doesn't know what it's doing sometimes. Hugo was a bit shocked by everything he was hearing. He was astounded by her bruises and couldn't believe that those slytherins would go this far. He put a hand on her shoulder and said peering into her eyes, "Are you sure you don't want them to get punished? Trust me, after I've finished with them, they won't ever bother you again." He absolutely detests those who pick on others. What's the point of that? Those slytherins obviously don't have a life and need to stop torturing people as entertainment. The ones Misty mentioned especially get into loads of trouble all the time.
Hugo removed his hand from her shoulder and thought over of some punishments in his head "How about I help you find that compact? No one will have to know," he said winking at her. Hugo could get in any classroom easily. Hopefully Misty would agree with him so he'd have something interesting to do tonight. The last time he did anything that involved breaking the rules, especially at night, were before his prefect years. Hugo would never have thought he'd even be a prefect because he'd love raising hell so much when he was younger. Good thing he never got caught though because then there'd be no way he'd be head boy now.

Misty gazed at the boy before he said anything with a reproachful look in her eye. "I know what you're thinking," she said. "You're wondering how I'm in Slytherin. I'm clever, sly, and ambitious. I have all the true qualities of a Slytherin, including pure blood. I'm just not mean. Not all Slytherins are jerks, you know."
She listened to what he had to say, and shook her head. "That's what the Slytherin prefect I told told me. He said he'd take care of them, and that they'd never bother me again. That's part of the reason Drina pushed me down the stairs, so you can see where that got me. Besides, they'll be gone next year, so I just have to deal with them for the rest of the year and then I'm free. I can get through one year, sir. I'm much tougher than they think."
She grinned at Hugo's suggestion, eyes shining with mischief. "Why sir, isn't that against the rules?" she asked, her voice deceivingly innocent. "I'd be glad for the help though. I... don't really know where the Muggle Studies room is, to be truthful."

Hugo was taken aback by some of Misty's remarks. She was right; not all slytherins are jerks as she put it. Hearing that's she tough also impressed him. "I do have more ranking that that prefect you talked to so I could handle this situation better but, if you're sure you can handle it on your own, I'll believe you." Misty was also right about having those slytherin characteristics. Maybe the sorting hat did know what it was doing after all. Hugo thought about sending people to pick on those slytherin girls but he'd be no better than they were.
"You don't know where the muggle studies room is? Well to be frank, I don't quite remember where it is either..." Hugo had never bothered to take the class because he was raised in a muggle environment. His father didn't want to uproot his muggle-born mother from the place she loved and they both wanted Hugo to have the best of both worlds. So taking that class would really be a waste for him. "Let's see... we're in the bell towers... the muggle studies room is on the first floor..." he was speaking more so to himself than to Misty. He can't seem to remember quite where the classroom is on the first floor.
"Well, let's go on the first floor. Maybe once I'm there I'll remember where the classroom is." Hugo looked at her and wondered what she was thinking. A head boy breaking the rules? Preposterous.

Misty grinned at Hugo's suggestion. Now that she had someone to help her, and she knew she wasn't going to get into trouble, the whole ordeal seemed a lot more fun to her. Well, besides getting shoved down the stairs, that is. "Oh, boy, an adventure!" she said softly, though her tone showed all of her new-found excitement for the project. "That sounds good," she agreed.
As the two walked, Misty looked up at Hugo with wondering eyes. "So how'd you get to be Head Boy? Are you Head Boy so that you can break the rules and not get caught, or are you Head Boy because you never did get caught?" Though her tone was slightly teasing, Misty was genuinely curious. Being Head Boy or Girl seemed like an awfully fun job, though she knew she never would be able to do it, since she was on the Quidditch team.

As they walked, he enjoyed the company of someone as fun and vibrant as Misty. Everyone his age was so preoccupied with future plans and N.E.W.T.'s that it was kind of a downer for Hugo. Misty on the other hand was still young enough to not even have to worry about her O.W.L.'s yet. Ah, to be young again... He smirked to himself.
Having heard Misty's question, he laughed out loud. He quickly quieted himself though just in case anyone came looking for the source of the disturbance. He had momentarily forgotten that it was still early in the morning but he was sure to not make that mistake again. "I became Head Boy so others wouldn't break the rules. But, you're right about me never getting caught," he said flashing her a smile. "Being sneaky got me to be a prefect first of course. That was probably the last time I made any trouble. Since then, I try to keep out of mischievous things." Hugo still had his fun but he had to be extra careful since he was head boy.

Misty grinned back at him, and the two walked on for a while in silence. Unfortunately, Misty never was very good at silence, and so she broke it a few minutes later.
"I've always thought it sounded like great fun. Being a prefect and head boy or girl, I mean. Do you like being Head Boy? I can't be a prefect, since I'm on the Quidditch team, but I always thought it sounded interesting," she said softly, so that only Hugo would be ab. Misty was beginning to actually sort of enjoy this, despite being very tired. She liked having someone older to talk to; someone who wouldn't make fun of her because her father was a Gryffindor and her mother was a Hufflepuff. Those house rivalries where way over-rated, if you asked Misty. Not that anyone ever did.

Hugo was quite amused by the girl. She was always talking and that was a bit comforting for him in this silence. "Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's quite troublesome. There are a whole bunch of troublemakers at Hogwarts and tracking them all down can be tiring. But, that's what I have prefects for! I have them do rounds at night while I'm sleeping like a baby in my bed," he said laughing a little. A few minutes had passed before he said, "So you're on the quidditch team? What's that like?" He was asking for his own self-interest because what he wanted more than anything in the world was to play on the hufflepuff quidditch team. Due to certain circumstances though, he was prohibited to do so.
It's kind of embarrassing to talk about what had happened so he's never told anyone. Not even Lita. All he can do now is just root on the team he was supposed to be on. It's a bit bittersweet really. He gets jealous quite often of those who are on the team and it irritates him when they complain about their team captain or the weather. Hugo just wants to spit back at them saying they should be honored to be on the team at all. But he never does because no one can know the source of all his agitation.
